Unexpected Gifts

Receive a few unexpected Christmas gifts which make me feel very very blessed and loved. Even though my primary love language is not gifts, still it speaks aloud when someone give something. Especially when a gift is given with a sincerity of look, sometimes it can really melt a person’s heart.

One thing I really learn from Shiyan is the amount of effort put into presenting and passing the person a gift. When the gift is being presented like this, wow, I am just impressed and touched.

My primary love language is words of affirmation and quality time. But it doesn’t mean that when other love language is being spoken, people don’t receive it. It is the same anyway.

List of Xmas gifts this, or rather last year, from:
- Cousin Joyce: A pair of earrings
- Steph Peh: A cambodian handbag which really comes in useful for all occasions
- Shuting: Furry bag for putting whatever barang barang and a cute pen which adds a tinge of creative artsy into my room.
- Shiyan: An esprit bag for all occasions (with the price tag on it…)
- Stef Gui: Highlighter pen which comes in handy for revision
- Biqing: Notebook which is just what I need as a new sermon book
- Bifen: Bookmark
- Jenny: Almond power… (hmm?)
- Xueling: Earrings
- Sharon: Card and…
- Pauming: Self-help book
- Uncle & Aunt: Face mask & eye mask

I am thankful for all these big small blessings given me by people everywhere.
Last year 2008 through might not have been fabulous, but at least the ending is not that bad.

Utter Letdown

Elaboration not necessary.

Just that, at least grandma’s secret prayers got answered.
And I begin to realize that home is so much better even though I gripe about it daily.
And I also begin to realize the company of familiarity somehow brings a sense of warmth.

Oh well………………………………………………….

Cambodia Missions Trip

From heard about it, to interest, to desire, to really want it.
I don’t think I have ever wanted to go for something that badly.

If I don’t go now, I may never have another chance.

26th – 31st December 2008.

7 days countdown.

Sisters

If you don’t understand how a woman could both love her sister dearly and want to wring her neck at the same time, then you were probably an only child.  ~Linda Sunshine

A sister can be seen as someone who is both ourselves and very much not ourselves – a special kind of double.  ~Toni Morrison

A sibling may be the keeper of one’s identity, the only person with the keys to one’s unfettered, more fundamental self.  ~Marian Sandmaier

Sisters annoy, interfere, criticize.  Indulge in monumental sulks, in huffs, in snide remarks.  Borrow.  Break.  Monopolize the bathroom.  Are always underfoot.  But if catastrophe should strike, sisters are there.  Defending you against all comers.  ~Pam Brown

The StanChart experience

“In marathons, everyone starts on equal footing. You realize that we’re really all the same people.”

Fresh before the run!

Fresh before the run!

I think what makes it different for everyone is the process towards reaching the goal. For me, I wanted to finish the race to prove to myself that I can finish what I plan to do. Well, I did finish it, just a little off my target of 2 hrs 5 mins. I got it done in 2 hrs 14 mins instead. Still, 3 cheers for myself!

Sightings

I must say the best part of the race is the ending. Nothing beats the part of crossing the finishing line. Because of this, I think I will go back to run again.

Finishing medal!

Wedding Dinner Conclusion

Wedding dinner is really a time of sumptuous food one after another. And after attending 2 weddings in a row this week, I learned that when attending a wedding…

Rule no 1  – Wear loosely for the extra ’space’.
Rule no 2 – Sit beside someone you like, if possible. You’ll be sitting beside him / her for a long time.
Rule no 3 – Eat and enjoy the show. You pay a lot for this.

Really, I must remind myself not to accept wedding invitations too easily lest I regret it again by boring myself through the whole routine. Next time when/if I have my own wedding dinner, I shall make sure my guests are not bored too. =p

The Meaning of Fellowship

There is something about fellowship that changes the heart.

As Hebrews 10:24-25 says it,

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

When I give, I receive as well.
When I put others needs first, I am being encouraged too.
When I hear the stories of other unfortunate events, I begin to grow thankful for what I already have.
When I pray for seemingly impossible situations to change, I begin to understand human limitations and God’s power more.

And so, I begin to realize how very important fellowship is, to my own spiritual life. That my heart may not grow cold. That my eyes and ears will continue to be open to what God is doing and will be doing.

Post-Exam Thoughts

After rushing through one term in MDIS, I am both relieved and glad. Relieved that the term is over and pretty manageable. Before this term started, I was really filled with all sorts of ‘what if’ thoughts. Not very positive thoughts. Heard stories about how tough a Business course is, etc. After going through it myself, I thought it’s pretty ok. The lectures are usually enjoyable, though some are dry. Made a few great study buddies along the way. I don’t think my first term exam results will be fantastic. But, I shall do better subsequently.

Just now I received an sms of bad news from someone close to my heart. Oh well, my first reaction is to point fingers and find a person to blame. But, upon some consideration, I thought there is really nothing I can do about it. Trying to find out more or make things better by my effort will not work. Sometimes people make decisions that caused you to wonder why. You don’t go and probe further. You just know that you can’t change others, but you can change yourself and your own response towards the situation.

At the end of the day, I am accountable to God for my own life, not another person’s life.
